What is Chaga?

Chaga is a non-toxic type of mushroom (fungi) commonly referred to as Lingzhi in China or Reisha in Japan. Lingzhi has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine, and the mushroom's legendary effects on good health, vitality, longevity and anti-aging are now well supported by modern research studies.

Chaga is neither a plant or animal, yet its DNA make-up is 30% closer to humans than plants. Classified scientifically as Basidiomycetes mushrooms, there are approximately 200 species with demonstrated medicinal values.

Chaga strengthens and balances one’s Qi (Chi—in the western sense, referred to as an internal flow of energy). Used for centuries as a cure for cancer, diabetes, stomach ailments, blood disorders, bronchitis, liver damage, hypertension, tumors and other antibacterial or antiviral infections, Chaga also combats the visible signs of aging—it contains melanin, which nourishes hair, skin and nails, restoring one's complexion to a healthy and more youthful appearance.

Many Lingzhi or Reishi products available on the market contain artificially cultivated Lingzhi. They are cheaper, but the best source is 100% wild and natural. Sadly, too many firms supply the active primary ingredients in capsule form, which are diluted and standardized for easy consumption. This is not necessarily the proper consumption.

According to the ancient Chinese medical texts written in the 1st or 2nd century B.C. (Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing) and in the Ming Dynasty (Ben Cao Gang Mu), Lingzhi is referred to as the "King of Herbs." Chaga's amazing healing powers dominate ancient Russian folklore as well, where it is referred to as Chaga or Turunto Birch (Inonotus Obliquus).

The best and most effective mushrooms are grown in the most extreme environments, making Chaga very rare. Chaga grows on the trunks of Black Birch trees that are at least 20 years old, and in the harshest of winter conditions (below minus (-) 40 degrees C). They die within two to three months of being harvested, and only two to three trees out of every hundred bear mushrooms that receive the designation “Superior Grade and Certification.”
